Star Parties
The BAS conducts star parties on Friday nights as close to the New Moon date as possible for best viewing of deep sky objects (star clusters, nebulae and galaxies). At star parties, we share knowledge and optical equipment with each other under moderately dark skies. Visitors of all ages are welcome! No equipment or experience is necessary, but dress for the weather (especially when it's cold) and bring mosquito repellent.
Shiloh Site
The BAS North Site, shared with the KSCAA, is a good dark sky site located in the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge north of the Kennedy Space Center. Small light domes from Titusville to the south and Oak Hill are visible but only minor annoyances.
Driving directions to the BAS star party observing site are available here. Please see our events calendar for the next star party. Please note that any star party request for groups of 25 or more people will require a minimum one month lead time in order for us to get telescope volunteers. Our policy is that smaller groups visit the BCC observatory on a Friday or Saturday night, or come to our Shiloh site (weather permitting). We have found this to work out best for all involved parties. If you have other questions about BAS star parties, please contact us at info@brevardastro.org.
